You’d be hard pressed to find a better connection to the heritage of the first diver’s watches for the price than Zodiac’s Super Sea Wolf. Introduced in 1953 alongside the Rolex Submariner and Blancpain Fifty Fathoms, the Zodiac Diver is also one of our favorite modern tool watches. It’s been fun and (relatively) affordable for a long time, but this new version takes it in a much more serious direction.
The new Zodiac Super Sea Wolf Pro-Diver mainline improves the specs of this trusty diver’s watch in almost every way. The base Super Sea Wolf collection has typically featured a water resistance of 200m which is perfectly sufficient for most dives you will ever do and compatible with many entry level dive watches like Seiko and Swiss brands. Now, with a water resistance of 300 m, the Pro-Diver Mainline is comparable to high-end watches and meets ISO certification.
This is not the only improvement, however, as this waterproof case protects a Sellita SW-200 automatic movement certified COSC chronometer, guaranteed extra-precise (between +6 and -4 seconds per day). It is also adorned with copious Super-LumiNova on its hands and its bezel for readability in low light. With increased water resistance, however, also comes an expected case diameter of 42mm, making these versions more serious and modern than their retro siblings.
Although slightly larger, the basic character of the Super Sea Wolf is retained in these new models, including the collection’s colorful hue palette. Five versions of the main Zodiac Super Sea Wolf Pro-Diver line are available at launch, with a range of brightly-colored matching dials, bezels and bracelets, as well as steel bracelets. The improved specs also bring a price premium over existing Super Sea Wolf watches, with each version available for $ 1,695.
