Fossil to launch new Wear OS watches in 2021

Fossil has been Google’s biggest Wear OS supporter across all of the platform’s missteps, and now that things are finally heading in the right direction, the company is proud to announce that it will be releasing more smartwatches. Wear OS in 2021 with Qualcomm material under the hood.

In A press release Speaking of Qualcomm’s new “Wearable Accelerator” program today, Chris Hartley of Fossil spoke about the next step for the group when it comes to Wear OS. Apparently, Fossil is gearing up to launch a new Wear OS product line in 2021, even claiming that the company will release the “best” Wear OS smartwatch possible.

At Fossil Group, we are always looking for new innovations and increased performance in our products. Thanks to our continued partnership with Qualcomm and the launch of our next smartwatches later this year, Fossil plans to bring the best Wear OS smartwatch possible to market this year

While details are obviously not clear on what this smartwatch will bring, it is almost certain that it is the Fossil Gen 6 line, which is due out this year based on the company’s usual schedule. Given the context in which Qualcomm has just announced that it will launch new Snapdragon Wear chips “within the next year”, it seems possible that the Gen 6 could run on a newer chipset than the Snapdragon Wear 4100 series. , which debuted in 2020, has only been used in two watches, and still has no guaranteed upgrade path to the new Wear OS experience that will release this year.

Either way, it’s great to see that Fossil is sticking with Google’s platform until 2021, and it’ll be interesting to see what these new Wear OS smartwatches bring to the table compared to. the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 and everything Google has at its disposal. handle.
